Environment
Summit has incorporated work
procedures throughout our operations based on the Environmental
Management System requirements of our ISO 14001 certified
clients. We are proud to have worked together with mills in
their quest for ISO 14001 certification, and consider ourselves
leaders in the industry.
Pre-block Assessment
A trained employee conducts a Pre-block Assessment prior to
spraying any area. This assessment documents environmental
and safety concerns including
- Water bodies
- Road condition
- Unclear treatment unit boundaries
- Danger trees
These assessments are reviewed with the supervisor
prior to work being done and strategies are developed to deal
with identified problems.
Operation Protocols
When spraying is taking place, the following environmental
procedures are followed:
- Workers know their specific locations
on a map at all times to ensure they are working in the
correct areas with the correct application technique
- Workers know where to find a map if they
are disoriented
- Workers know to 'stop and ask' if they
are unsure
Post-application Block Reports
At the conclusion of our work on a block, a Block Report is
completed and submitted. Block Reports include:
- Total product applied
- Total hectares treated
- Source of the water used in the mix solution
- Map which documents all protected water
bodies, riparian zones and non-treatment areas (including
wildlife tree patches and environmentally sensitive areas)
- Weather monitoring report
- Operations report that outlines the daily
details of chemical uses, hectares treated
- Ongoing herbicide inventory record
- Chemical container disposal record
