Systems
Summit has implemented several systems to ensure that we complete
our work safely, efficiently, and to high levels of accountability
and excellence. We have documented systems in
- health and safety;
- environment; and,
- quality .
Our systems have five interrelated components:
- Training
- Inspections
- Audits
- Investigations
- Documentation
Training
Every Summit employee receives training prior to commencing
work. This is where we communicate values and teach company
policies and safe operating procedures for every aspect of
our operation.
Training also allows us to introduce the
ethic that underlies our systems-the critical importance of
system implementation and the consequences of system breakdown.
Inspections
Inspections ensure our facilities and activities are safe
and meet or exceed environmental regulations. Regular inspections
are carried out and documented on the following:
- Vehicles
- Camp Facilities
- Fuel Facilities
- Tree Caches
- Quality
- Work Sites and Field Operations
Audits
Audits assess our safety and environmental systems as a whole.
These audits ensure that system components are being employed
as intended and notes deficiencies to be evaluated and improved
upon.
Investigations
Summit conducts a formal investigation for every incident
or accident. An accident is a situation that results
in injury, property damage, or the loss of process resulting
in down time. An incident is a situation that has the
potential to become an accident.
The intent of our investigations is to determine
the root cause of any incident or accident, not to assign
blame. The information gained through investigation is then
communicated to employees in order to avoid similar events
in the future. It is also used to update our policies, procedures,
and training design on an ongoing basis.
Documentation
All of our training, inspections, audits, and investigations
are documented and signed off by our supervisors. These documents
are reviewed at the year-end safety meeting as part of our
on-going process of system improvement.
