Caileigh McDade

Age: 23

About Me:

After completing my degree at university I have spent the last year and a half working, volunteering and doing some travelling. Last year I spent some time living out west in Vancouver and also did a volunteer trip to Ecuador. Although I am originally from Kingston Ontario, I am currently living and working in Ottawa.

Hobbies/Interests:

Running, horseback riding, traveling, pretty much any activity outside!

Quotes:

Haaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnk!!! (you will understand once you meet my dog)

Education:

I graduated from Queen’s university in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. I am currently working in a physiotherapy clinic and am applying for a masters program which I plan to attend in 2012 or 2013.

Crew History:

This coming 2012 season will be my first season with a full crew.  In 2011 I ran a crew of six people including myself. The foreman I have had in the past have worked incredibly hard, have been organized, but have also had a lot of fun. I feel like this is exactly what is needed to have a productive and efficient crew. This is what I tried to bring to the crew last year and plan on bringing to the crew this season.

I always try to work hard and challenge myself which is what has brought me to becoming a foreman. I have enjoyed working in the bush since my first planting season five years ago and it is the experiences and people I have worked for and with, that has kept me coming back each year.

Summit History and Industry History:

2012 will be my sixth year working in the bush. I started my first planting season in northern Ontario where I remained for two years. I then came to Summit which is where I have been for the last three years. I was a planter for my first two years with Summit and last year I began the season as support staff and then ran a small crew for the remainder of the season. From being a planter, to support staff, to a foreman I have had the opportunity to experience the planting industry from many perspectives.

Expectation of my planters:

  • Show up for work

  • Be on time

  • Work hard and try your best

  • Be willing to help out

  • Respect those around you

2012 Goals:

My primary goal for this season is to do everything I can in order for each individual on my crew to have every opportunity for the most productive and enjoyable season as possible. I will attempt to achieve this by:

  • Providing a healthy and safe work environment at all times

  • Always making sure that my planters never run out of trees or land and to minimize any down time as much as possible

  • Working with planters to maximize their productivity and efficiency in the way that works best for them

  • Always being willing to listen and learn from my planters

  • Having fun!!!
